The soon to be available prop indexer is designed to make aligning the prop for raising the drive simple. It works by a pivotal fin which drops down from the drive shaft, blocking the prop from rotating, and aligning it to be raised thru the hull.

We haven't seen an actual production model but what we understand at this point is that it will be a retrofit to existing drives.

I'm wondering if it would work to just drop something down manually to align the prop when pulling it up... never really thought about it, but I did ground it once by not getting it out on time.  For $30 it's probably worth it just to buy one when they're released.

That's a pretty darn good idea,  I have not put thought into something like that.  I will probably get one when available it is not something that is easily made by myself.

I received mine in the mail the other day.  I am going to put it on this evening but so far it seems really sturdy.  I has a pretty strong spring in it and seems like it is going to last the life of the propel system.

I think is was "Mudfish" in here that showed me his slick idea....put a mark on the drive with a Magic Marker at the point where the prop is vertical....easy, peasy and cheap too!!!

JohnYaksJax

PS:  May have to re-index the mark if you re-install the prop....????
